 About LOGICOLIS

LOGICOLIS is a logistics company specialising in the storage and logistics of fruit and vegetables, based in Beaucaire in the south of France. Equipped with the latest supply chain technologies, this logistics platform meets the needs of the most demanding customers, such as suppliers of perishable goods.

LOGICOLIS must manage the delivery and dispatch of fruit and vegetables to several dozen shops of a major chain in France. From dawn, LOGICOLIS receives pallets of produce and must dispatch them to the destination shops in the shortest possible time. To meet this challenge, the company has equipped itself with scanning gantries to manage incoming and outgoing stock and increase productivity.

The Challenge

Due to an increase in orders, the installation of gantries became a priority for LOGICOLIS. It was also necessary to facilitate the work of its operators and simplify the monitoring of pallets entering and leaving the warehouse. LOGICOLIS called on TIMCOD to install a solution for automatically reading barcodes placed on crates, which were then stacked on pallets and transported on trolleys. Zebra and TIMCOD worked together to provide a complete, tailor-made solution adapted to the customer’s environment.

Coordinating this deployment for LOGICOLIS with Zebra products was a great privilege and a huge success. Designing such a customised project in such a short space of time was an unprecedented challenge. Thanks to the close collaboration between all parties, LOGICOLIS now has a digitisation solution that meets their new commitments.

The Solution

LOGICOLIS selected TIMCOD, a Zebra Premier Solution and Industrial Automation partner, and Supply Chain specialist, to find the ideal solution for the customer. The intended outcome was to enable LOGICOLIS to simultaneously scan up to eight different barcodes, from the ground and up to 2.30 meters high. Zebra was the only supplier able to meet the customer’s demanding deadlines, supplying the hardware to equip the gantries in just six weeks. “LOGICOLIS must deliver quickly while responding to delivery challenges,” explains Thomas Pigasse, Transport & Logistics Market Director at TIMCOD. “They operate to strict timelines and deadlines, so logistics flows have to be optimised to leave no room for error.”

The Zebra Difference: Outcome and Benefits

Zebra and TIMCOD deployed fixed industrial scanners to update the barcode scanner technology. Today, LOGICOLIS is speeding up operations by helping operators pick the right pallets while minimizing mistakes. This is thanks to the eight FS40 scanners fitted to seven gantries, totaling 56 readers, to increase the speed at which a pallet can be processed. Productivity is estimated to have increased by 20%-30%.

Furthermore, the direction in which the pallet passes through the gantry is controlled with a datamatrix code label fixed to either side of the trolley, the code being read by the FS40. If the pallet goes in one direction, the pallets are returned to stock; if it goes in the other direction, they are automatically removed from stock. The fixed scanners are able to read the labels and information on the pallets much faster than the old solution. Forklifts can now pass through gantries at speeds up to 7km/h. The knowledge and expertise of Zebra and TIMCOD fully meet LOGICOLIS’ needs to meet these challenges.

In addition to the gantry setup, LOGICOLIS now benefits from an infra-Wi-Fi system, as well as handhelds, printers and dockside trolleys to facilitate the labelling process. This comprehensive scanning solution enables a significant time and productivity gain estimated between 20 and 30%, a reduction in errors with reading rates of 95 to 99%, and provides LOGICOLIS with real-time visibility of their inventory and logistical operations.
